The run defense continues to be outstanding – it’s No. 1 in the nation – and the offense is strong at controlling the clock. It has pieces in place, it has the things that normally make Michigan State, Michigan State … and it’s just not working.
Now, he has crunched the numbers and generated a strong point-spread selection for Penn State vs. Michigan State. However, it’s not going to take that much for the Spartans to go from mediocre and losing, to mucking it up and being just strong enough to beat Penn State.
The Spartans will own the time of possession battle – Penn State will hold the ball for around 27 minutes. There’s no running game, but the passing attack is strong enough to open it up when needed. Even in their loss to Ohio State at home, the Nittany Lions looked like serious title contenders. He pulled off the win over Penn State last year with 400 yards and two scores, and even in the loss last week to Northwestern, he threw for 329 yards.
Michigan State has been battle-tested in tight football games this season, with no margin of victory exceeding 14 points. If things stay tight, the Spartans might be able to force Penn State to relive some of the unfortunate mistakes that cost them against Ohio State.
